Shabbat

Shabbat, beginning each week at sundown on Friday and continuing until sundown on Saturday, has always been considered the most sacred of all Jewish holidays.  Traditionally a time for rest, worship, family and reflection, Shabbat still holds a special place in the hearts of Reform Jews today.  For more information about the holiday of Shabbat, click here.

 Torah Study

Please note - there will be no Torah Study from Monday, February 13th through Monday, March 19th. Torah Study will resume on Monday, March 26th.

Since there has been such a wonderful turnout for the Monday Torah Study class, we are making it into a permanent fixture. Every Monday at 1:00 pm the class will be held at the office 147 West Patrick Street, unless otherwise noted.  We will be discussing that week's Parsha.  For the time being, we will also have our Saturday morning Learner's Service and Torah study on non-Bar/Bat Mitzvah Weekends for those people who cannot make it on Mondays.  If you have any questions, please be in contact with Rabbi Dan at rabbi@kolamifrederick.org

January 28, 2012 Musing From Rabbi Dan

From Rabbi Dan - In between the weeks that we do not have Shabbat serivces, I am posting a Musing. These Musings may be about the Torah portion, it could be about something that has happened during the week, or it could be about something else. Click here for the January 28, 2012 Musing.

Shabbat Services at Kol Ami

Congregation Kol Ami will now have services every two weeks instead of twice a month.  While there may only be a subtle difference now, it is a step towards having services every Friday evening.  Our services will be every two weeks even if there is a holiday since Shabbat falls every week.  Erev Shabbat services will no longer be called Family or Adult, just Erev Shabbat services.  There may be times when a class from our Religious School leads the service and the service will be geared towards the younger members of the congregation.  Tot Shabbat will remain at 6:30 on the first weekend of each month (generally) with the Erev Shabbat Services being at 7:30.

Friday Erev Shabbat services and Saturday Morning Sabbath services with a Bar or Bat Mitzvah are led by Rabbi Sikowitz and held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Frederick. Click here for directions.

On Saturday morning we hold a Learner's Service and Torah Study.  The Learner's Service allows time for discussion regarding the prayers and practices of the Jewish service, there will also be Torah study with the Learner's Service.  All Learner's Services and Torah Study will be held at the Congregation Kol Ami Office, 147 W. Patrick St., Frederick, MD.  Click here for directions

Friday evening Tot Shabbat services(first Friday of each month) begin at 6:30 pm; Friday evening Erev Shabbat services begin at 7:30 pm; Saturday morning Shabbat services/Learner's services begin at 10:00 am.
